Stephanie Tierney (Chapman)

Stephanie Chapman Tierney, 81, of Honesdale, died on Friday, July 3, 2026 at Mid Valley Health Care Center in Peckville. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Robert E. Tierney. The couple married on May 22, 1965.

Born on February 2, 1945 in Bainbridge, MD, she was the daughter of the late Walter I. Chapman, MD and Helen M. (Milwid) Chapman.

Stephanie began her career as a secretary, later transitioning to a role as an underwriter in the insurance industry. However, her most cherished role was that of a loving homemaker, where she found joy in caring for her family and creating a nurturing environment filled with love and support. Her passion for arts and crafts shone brightly throughout her life, and she found solace in her talent for painting. She was well known for her canvas floor cloths that were beautifully decorated and gifted to family and friends. In her earlier years, Stephanie enjoyed the companionship of pets around the house, adding further warmth to her home.

A devout Roman Catholic, Stephanie demonstrated unwavering faith throughout her life. When her health allowed, she prayed the rosary daily and attended St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Mary Elizabeth Hagearty and husband Sean of Hebron, CT, Jennifer Ann Olachea and husband Britt of Sun City, AZ and Peter Chapman Tierney and wife Cynthia of Austin, TX. She is also survived by her 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Amy Gail Smith.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of her family. Arrangements by Hessling Murray Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale.
