Obituaries » William Thomas Doherty Burial Date January 4, 2025 Place of Service Saint Mary Magdalen Share your Memorial with Family & Friends William Thomas Doherty, 74 of Honesdale, died on Tuesday, December 24, 2024 at his home. Born on November 13, 1950 in Honesdale, he was the son of the late Thomas and Mary Helen (Morgan) Brussell Doherty. Mr. Doherty was a graduate of Honesdale High School and received his teaching degree from Mansfield. He began student teaching at Tunkhannock High School where he would be offered a job and begin his English teaching career. He later was hired at Honesdale High School where he continued teaching English and eventually would become the department chair. At HHS, he also directed many of the school plays. Bill also worked at the Settler’s Inn where he was host. Mr. Doherty enjoyed acting and drama and was a member of Bethany Colony Players and Center Stage. His most memorable role was playing John Adams in a Wayne County Arts Alliance play. He loved to travel. He traveled throughout Europe and the United States. He recently spoke of planning a trip to Asia. Bill was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish. He was a member of the church choir and was among the group that traveled to Rome to sing for Pope John Paul II. Surviving is his sister, Frances Romich of Waymart; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph, Jack and Jerry Brussell and his sister, Patricia Miller. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Jan. 4th at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Honesdale at 10 am. Arrangements by Hessling Murray Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale.
