William H. Mander, 89, of Honesdale, died on Sunday, May 31, 2026 at Wayne Woodlands Manor in Waymart. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, the former Nancy Spencer. The couple married on February 13, 1960.

Born on November 3, 1936 in Staten Island, NY, he was the son of the late William and Marie (Finnigan) Mander. After graduating from Honesdale High School, Bill enlisted in the US Army where he served in the 11th Airborne Division.

Bill was a dedicated mail carrier for the United States Postal Service for many years, as well as the owner and operator of Mander Fire Extinguisher until his retirement. In earlier years, he served his community by driving an ambulance for Hessling Funeral Home.

Bill was a life member of Hose Company #1 in Honesdale and St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale. He was also an avid golfer and member of the Honesdale Golf Club. His dedication to youth sports was evident as he coached Little League Baseball, Stingers Football, and Biddy Basketball when his children were young. Bill’s compassionate spirit shone through in his volunteer work with Meals on Wheels.

Bill found his greatest joy in the company of his family and cherished the time they spent together. He and his wife, Nancy, shared a passion for travel and were proud to have explored every state across the country.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children and their spouses, Robert Mander and wife Jennifer of Honesdale, James Mander of Los Angeles, CA, Joseph Mander and wife, Doris of Charleston, SC and Karen Mander of Honesdale; his sister, Jeannette Barnes and husband, Robert of Tuscon, AZ. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Zachary Mander, Ashley Warring, Kaitlyn Mander, Karly Mander, Orlando “Mikey” Varela, Alyssa Jackson, Damon Varela, Marcus Mander, Natalie Mander, Spencer Houshultz and Garrit Houshultz; 14 great grandchildren.
