William C Burgemeister, 96, passed away peacefully on Christmas morning. Bill is survived by his nieces and nephews, Jude Elbaum, Robert Schmitt, Kenneth Stalzer, and Kristi Macias, as well as many grand nieces and nephews. In his youth Bill played baseball at Champlain College in Burlington, VT (on GI bill) and for the Bushwick Ravens in Brooklyn, NY. He served in Normandy in the 448th Bomb Group of the US Army during WWII as an Aircraft Mechanic on the B-24 Liberators. After the war, Bill went on to work for Grumman and was an Electrical Engineer working for NASA and was responsible for the wiring design on all the Lunar Landers from the Apollo missions to the Moon. Late in his career at Grumman, he worked on aircraft design on a number of experimental aircraft. Bill retired with his late wife Eleanor to Honesdale in the late 80’s where he is well known and loved by so many. Funeral service for Bill will be held in the spring.
