Wendi Harcum from Equinunk, PA passed away peacefully at Scranton Community Medical Centers on April 26, 2021. She was 47 years old. She was born in Mount Carmel, Illinois on July 14, 1973 to the late Tonia Harris. When Wendi was young, she moved to Somers Point, New Jersey, where she grew up. She attended Lycoming College, where she met her soulmate Joseph “Jay” Harcum, Jr. Wendi left Lycoming College to start a family with Jay, but returned to graduate summa cum laude from Rowan University. Wendi and Jay raised two daughters in Mays Landing, New Jersey before moving to Equinunk, PA in 2004. Wendi was an empowered woman with an incredible heart. She worked in a variety of careers throughout her life from teaching special education to providing counseling and support to victims of domestic violence. Anyone who knew Wendi knew she was direct, fully present, and compassionate. The jobs she had throughout her life attest to this. When Wendi was not working, she most enjoyed spending time with her family. She had many hobbies including gardening, photography, and baking. Wendi loved to spend her free time barefoot on her deck or patio in the sunshine. She loved to listen to artists like Jimmy Buffett and Jack Johnson. Wendi was a light, and knowing her felt like warm, summer sun. Wendi is survived by the love of her life and husband of 30 years, Jay Harcum, as well as her two daughters, Melanie Quick and Payton Vanvarick. She is also survived by her son in laws, Roger Quick and Scott Vanvarick, and her grandchildren, Olivia Quick and Rowan Vanvarick. The Harcum family wishes to extend their gratitude to Scranton Community Medical Centers and to everyone who offered their support during this time. In lieu of flowers, donations in Wendi’s name to Victim’s Intervention Program of Honesdale, Pennsylvania would be welcomed and appreciated. A public memorial will be held at 50 Ann Mitchell Road, Equinunk, Pennsylvania on Sunday, May 23 from 1:00-4:00 PM. A private funeral for the family will be held in Kilmarnock, Virginia.
