It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Walter Lawrence Florek, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother-in-law, on June 6th at the young age of 90. His departure leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
He was born at home on September 5, 1933 in Hanover Green, PA to Anna Szczecinski and Joseph Florek. Pops was a dedicated family man whose life was defined by his unwavering commitment to those he loved. He proudly served his country as a Private First Class (PFC E-3) in the Korean War as a helicopter mechanic. During this time, he made the sacrifice of missing the birth of his first child, a testament to his selflessness and sense of duty.
After his honorable service, Pops returned home and devoted himself to providing for his family working for Lockheed Martin and later Peerless Importers. Like McGevyor, he was known for always helping others and fixing things around the house. His favorite tools were duck tape and WD-40, and his favorite saying “it’s good enough.” His hands were never idle, and his ingenuity and skill were admired by all.
His devotion to his wife, Colleen, was unwavering throughout their 69 years of marriage. Together, they built a home filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories.
He is survived by his lovely wife Colleen and his loving children, Marie-Elena and Gerald Brasile, Walter Florek Jr., and Jackie and Andrew Saviolis. He was preceded in death by his son, Paul. He was also survived by his adoringly perfect grandchildren, Terry and his wife Jessica, his favorite granddaughter Stefanie and her husband Gregory, James, Paul Jude and his wife Elizabeth, Andrew, Anthony and his fiancee China, and Nikkos. As well as, his poofy-haired great-grandchild, Dominic and numerous friends and extended family members who will miss him dearly.
Pops will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be remembered for his steadfast work ethic, his unwavering commitment to his family, tinkering around the house, and “high” bowling scores.

A blessing service will be held at Hessling Murray Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale on Wednesday, June 12th at 11 am. Interment with military honors will follow in Green Gates Cemetery, Hawley. Friends may visit on Tuesday, 2 to 5 at the funeral home.
