Timothy E. O’Connell, 86, of Honesdale, died on Monday, November 14, 2016 at his home. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, the former Judith A. Elbert. The couple married on December 24, 1989.

Born on September 21, 1930 in Smith Hill, he was the son of the late Timothy E. and Esther Ripple O’Connell. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and survived the train wreck in Cochecton, OH on September 11, 1950.

Tim owned and operated Tim O’Connell Well Drilling for many years and worked at Farview State Hospital where he was a guard until retiring.

He was a member of the American Legion and VFW in Honesdale, a life member of Texas #4 and Clover Leaf Hunting Club.

Tim loved his dogs, Bear and Lillie.

Also surviving are his daughters Deborah Temperton and husband Barry and Darlene “Dolly” Hall and husband Chad; his step-daughter Christine Gustin and husband David; step-sons Bill Detwiler and wife Lisa, Jim Detwiler and wife Jill; twin brothers William Payne and Robert Payne; sisters Ann Theobald, Veronica Dolph, and Helen Eldred; grandchildren Jotanna O’Connell, Christina Richter, Shiloh Brynes and Walker Temperton; step-grandchildren Ryan and Carley Gustin, Connor, Julia and Cameron Detwiler.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Chester O’Connell and Charles Morelli and a sister Gertrude Neville.

As per his request, services will be private at the families convenience. Arrangements by Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale, PA 18431.
