Susanna “Sue” Teresa Ryan McCormick, age 95, of Pleasant Mount, PA and Delray Beach, FL passed away peacefully at her home in Pleasant Mount surrounded by family on Saturday, June 5, 2021. She was the widow of the late Ben McCormick, who died on October 23, 1982. Sue was born in Yonkers, NY on July 4, 1925, the daughter of the late Packy and Bessie Roark Ryan. One of 11 children, she grew up in Yonkers and graduated from Roosevelt High School.

During her youth, Sue vacationed with her family yearly in the Lake Como, Rock Lake and Pleasant Mount area. During her time there, she met the love of her life, Ben. The couple married on September 9, 1950, in Yonkers. They settled together on the McCormick family farm on Egypt Road in Pleasant Mount. They raised their family on the farm, known as “The Homestead”, which has been owned by the family since 1858.

Ben and Sue were blessed with 13 children: Ann (Dan) Brady, Joe McCormick, Bob (Jane) McCormick, Gerry (Annie) McCormick, Jim (Carrie) McCormick, Peggy (Bob) Rogers, Debbie (Luke) Wenk, Joan (Mike) Lamanna, John McCormick, Patricia McCormick, Bill (Bonnie) McCormick, Mary McCormick, and Paul McCormick. She also had 25 grandchildren (Ryan, Robert, Ellen, Patrick, Michael, Julia, Kelsey, Karla, Jeb, Ben, Mike, Jordan, Adam, Grace, Jen, Brad, Allison, Nicky, James, Andrew, Emily, Sean, Jessica, Jacob and Nathan), 20 great grandchildren (Kiley, Caven, Brooklyn, Hailey, Reese, Quinn, Emmett, Olivia, Connor, Declan, Kellan, Emilia, Riley, Bailey, Mackenzie, Zander, Tessa, Kristina, Vincent and Logan), and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She is survived by her brother, Richard Ryan, sister-in-law, Ethel Ryan, and brothers-in-law, Duke Phillips and Mike McCormick. Sue was preceded in death by her son, Gerry, and his wife, Annie, and her siblings, Bill Ryan, Bea Frawley, Betty Blue, Jack Ryan, Patricia Whaley, Dan Ryan, Dave Ryan, Peggy Clevenberg, and Monica Phillips.

A devoted Catholic and a woman of strong faith, she was a member of Saint Katharine Drexel Parish in Pleasant Mount, the Altar and Rosary Society, the Hilltop Social Club, and the Red Hat Society. She spent time each week saying the rosary with her friends, most recently with her dear friends, Pat Biondo, Marge Hnatko, and Nancy Michalizysen.

After Ben passed, Sue purchased a winter home in Delray Beach, FL where her door was always open for any and all to come. She especially loved sitting in her “Florida room” enjoying the weather and listening to music. Over the course of her 95 years, Sue enjoyed traveling to many different places and making many friends along the way.

The family would like to thank the staff at Highland Physicians, the Patel Retina Institute, and Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their care. We would also like to acknowledge and especially thank Melissa, her primary caregiver for the past several years, for her loving care and attention to detail, and her “Wayne Angel” Donna.

Viewing will be held on Thursday, from 5-8 PM at the Hessling Funeral Home in Honesdale, PA. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at 11:30 AM at St. James Church in Pleasant Mount with burial to follow at St. Cecelia’s Cemetery.
