Rudy D. Gager, 61 of Honesdale, passed away on October 28th, 2017 in his home after a 2 year battle with cancer.
Rudy was born in Callicoon, NY to parents Ruth and Glen Gager. He was one of seven children who grew up on the family farm north of Honesdale. He graduated from high school in Honesdale and worked as a mechanic for 42 years. All of his life he worked hard to provide for his family and help others. In his spare time he enjoyed restoring cars and going to Carlisle car shows with his son, going for rides in the country with his daughter and canine companion Cooper, playing guitar, listening to music, hunting and fishing. His strong but sweet nature touched many lives and always left a positive impression on all of those who knew him. To those who knew him best he was a great son and son-in-law, wonderful brother and brother-in-law, amazing father and grandfather, and an outstanding husband. Rudy married the love of his life Patty Naring Gager on September 20, 1975. The couple had two children, Ryan and Carrie who were both the apple of his eye. Rudy often said that having children was the best part of his life. Despite being diagnosed with lung and brain cancer in January of 2016, Rudy was able to fight through it in order to walk his daughter down the aisle and attend his son’s wedding. As his time was coming to an end his last wish was to have a grandchild. On September 20, 2017, his 42nd wedding anniversary, his wish came true when granddaughter Malea Ann Gill was born. Rudy was able to spend his last weeks at home surrounded by family and spending time with Malea thanks to the outstanding care provided by his loving wife and Wayne Memorial Hospice. Rudy will be truly missed by everyone who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents Ruth and Glen Gager, his father-in-law Gustave Naring, and his niece Shannon Skinner.
Rudy is survived by his wife Patty Gager, son Ryan Gager and wife Stacy of Honesdale, Daughter Carrie Gill, husband Daniel and granddaughter Malea of Equinunk, brother Rick Gager and wife Barbara, brother Keith Gager and wife Marcia, sister Rosemary Mitchell and husband David, sister Valerie Loscig and husband Harland, sister Cathy Smiegel and husband Bernie, sister Melody Smith and husband Darrin, his mother-in-law Pauline Garing; sister-in-law Kathy Miserendino and husband Charles as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 pm on Wednesday November 1st at Hessling’s Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, November 2nd at Hessling’s Funeral Home with the burial to follow at Pine Mill Cemetery.
