Carmody, 82, of Honesdale, entered eternal rest with Jesus on Wednesday, October 9, 2024. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Florence Marie (Gardas) Carmody on December 10, 2021. “Bob and Flossie” were happily married on February 27, 1965. Bob was born on December 5, 1941, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. He is the son of the late John D. and Dolores Jean (Roos) Carmody. Bob was a graduate of Honesdale Catholic High School Class of 1959 and attended the University of Scranton. He joined the ARMY National Guard in 1961. Bob went to Officer Candidate School (OCS) and became Officer and eventually became Company Commander of COA 109th Infantry Division. He attained both the rank of Captain and expert in use of all weapons. Soon after and during, Bob began working for his father at J.D. Carmody Insurance Agency. Bob, along with his brothers John and Stephen became owners of B&B Dodge in Honesdale in 1970. Years later, Bob decided to use his love of sales in the Real Estate business where he eventually retired in 2012 from Century 21 Select Group (formally Bobs company of Century 21- Gold C Realty). For almost 30 years, Bob served as Wayne County Commissioner. He utilized his deep commitment to helping others in the community and his devotion to Wayne County. He was passionate about philanthropic work and helping those in need. Outside of work, Bob was also very active in the community. When his children were young, he coached the “Bullets” Biddy Basketball team in the mid 1970’s through the early 1980’s. Bob was also a member of Texas #4 Fire Company and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. An avid golfer, he was a former member of the Honesdale Golf Club. He and Flossie enjoyed years of golf trips in the south with their friends and family. In his younger years, he played both basketball and baseball. As a boy and teenager “Bobby” played both Little League and then Teeners League baseball. As a young adult, Bob joined the Hessling Softball Team and was a remarkable and versatile ball player. He especially enjoyed the time with his teammates creating lifelong friendships. Bob was well known for his pleasant demeaner, firm handshake and captivating smile. He had such a genuine interest in learning about others and getting to know more about them. Also known as, “Large Bob” or “BC” by close friends and family, he was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a loyal friend. He was well respected in the community for being authentic, generous, and honest. Bob really knew how to light up a room and fill it with laughter. He will be remembered for his humor, anecdotes, and comedic imitations. For his family, he had a love for them built on faith and unwavering support. Bob was a true gem and will be sorely missed by many. Bob was a faithful member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale. Surviving are his four children, Tammy Fennell and husband, John of Virginia Beach, VA., Robert J. Carmody and companion, Jaci Rogers of Honesdale, Kathleen Daniels and husband, Mark of Blandon, PA., Nancy Allport, and husband, George of Emmaus, PA. His siblings, John Carmody and wife Connie, Susan Springer, Patricia Collins and husband Ronald, Stephen Carmody and wife Beth, Nanci Newcomb, and William Carmody and wife Colleen; his sisters-in-law, Joanne Weigand and Veronica Gardas. Bob loved and adored all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Alyssa Jackson and husband Chris, Patrick Fennell, and companion, Amirabelle Watson, Bridget Pingel and husband, Logan, Lindsey Carmody and companion, Gina Ziegler, Hannah Daniels, Josiah Daniels, Anna Neyhart and Finnley Neyhart. Great grandchildren, Owen and Olivia Jackson, Noah and Boone Pingel and Baby (girl) Fennell on the way. Bob is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph D. Carmody; his daughter-in-law, Kathryn Frisch Carmody; his brother-in-laws, Patrick Newcomb, Ronald Gardas and Al Gillette. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 25th at St. John the Evangelist Church, 150 Terrace St. Honesdale at 10 am. Interment will follow in St. John’s Cemetery. Friends may visit Hessling Murray Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale on Thursday, October 24th, 4 to 7. Bob and Flossie adopted many family pets over the years from Dessin Animal Shelter bringing them so much joy and happiness. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Olga and Dorothea Dessin Animal Shelter. In the very near future, Bobs children will be forming the Robert V. Carmody Memorial Fund to raise monies for various causes associated around their dads amazing life.
