During his early years at Moore, he met Anne Golden, and they subsequently married. Their family life was shared in Niagara Falls, Lewisburg, PA, Honesdale and Glenview, IL as Richard received promotions at work.

He is survived by four children and their spouses who benefited from his selfless example and advice: Wendell (Karen)Kay of Honesdale, Patricia Kay (Robert Przywieczerski) of Hagerstown, MD, Kelly Kay of Englewood and Mary Clare Kay (Ronald Mantley) of Brewster, MA. His brothers were Robert (Mildred), Thomas, William (Jean), Durward or “Woody” (Joyce), Donald (Joyce) and Wendell B. (Marianne). He is survived by his sister-in-law, Mildred Kay. Always public spirited, Richard served as a volunteer as Chairman of the Wayne County PA Housing Authority, Chair of the Northeast Shippers Association, Chair of the Honesdale Borough Civil Service Commission, Honesdale Biddy Basketball coach and as a co- founder of Honesdale Missy Basketball. Together with his dear friend, William Lalley, he was one of the first lay lectors at St. John’s-St. Mary’s R.C parish in Honesdale.
