Raymond P. Scholl, 87, of Honesdale, died peacefully on Thursday, September 26, 2024 at his home with his family by his side. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Joan Knapp on October 24, 2006. The couple married on June 4, 1960.

Born on June 7, 1937 in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Christopher M. and Inez M. (Kyzer) Scholl. Ray was a US Army veteran who served during the Korean War.

He worked for many years as a welder for Village Iron Works before becoming a custodian for Wayne Highlands School District where he retired. He enjoyed collecting trains in his younger years and was a big fan of Mickey and Minnie Mouse.

Ray wished to die in his home that he built. He was able to do so because of his son Raymond who became his primary caregiver.

Surviving are his children, Christine Layden of Willmington, NC, Raymond Scholl of Honesdale, Dawn Diehl and husband Tony of Honesdale and Christopher Scholl and wife Kim of Honesdale; his brother, Richard Scholl and wife Alice of FL; his sister, Patricia Novak and husband John of East Windsor, NJ; his sister-in-law, Bernadette of Las Vegas, NV. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and 1 on the way, many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Scholl.

Ray’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Wayne Memorial Hospice, especially Karon, Kacie, Charlene and Margaret.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 25th at Indian Orchard Cemetery at 2 pm. Arrangements by Hessling Murray Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale.
