On Monday February 19, 2024, Mary R. Dexter 87 of Honesdale passed away at Wayne Memorial Hospital in the company of her children. Her husband of 52 years, David, preceded her in death in October of 2009.

Mary was born at home on October 21, 1936 and was the daughter of the late William J. Kerl and Rose Woliski Kerl.

Mary is remembered as a loving mother, sister and friend who continued to make friends throughout her lifetime. These relationships were important to her. She also enjoyed and often noted that she lived in the Honesdale her entire life. She graduated from Honesdale Catholic HS and as a lifetime member of St. John the Evangelist Parish, Mary attended St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, was a special minister of the Eucharist, was an active member of the Altar and Rosary Society and  The Catholic Daughters of America. She also worked at the annual Church Block Party. Mary was a member of The Seelyville Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary attending meetings and helping with the many social events and dinners.

Mary was employed be several local businesses including Grants, A&P,  Mackles Clothing,  Waymart knitwear and Gentex.  She worked at the Polls on election days and was a familiar face at the Country Auction both as a worker and a customer buying and selling various collectibles as a hobby.

Throughout her life, Mary  enjoyed roller skating, bowling, flea markets, auctions, visits from her grand children, going on outings in the car and spending time with her family and friends.

She will be deeply missed by her son Thomas Dexter of Honesdale, daughter Susan Judge of Lansdale,  granddaughter Stephanie  Judge of North East, MD, Grandson Andrew Judge of Lansdale, and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her brother Joseph Kerl (wife Helen) and sister Ruth Szostowski.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday March 4, 2024 at 10 AM at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Honesdale. The family will receive friends from 9:30 AM to 10 AM at the church prior to Mass. Interment will be at St. Mary Magdalene Cemetery.
