Mary Eleanor (Cousins) Schmidt, 80, formerly of Berlin Twp., died July 7, 2015 at Allied Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Scranton where she was residing. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald L. Schmidt on April 18, 1998.

Born July 24, 1934 in Prince Edward Island, Canada, she was the daughter of the late George and Gertrude McGinnis Cousins. A homemaker, Mary was also employed at the former Katz Underwear Factory.

Mary loved her dogs and was well known for baking chocolate chip cookies for her grandchildren. She was a faithful member of St. John the Evangelist Parish, attending St. Mary Magdalen Church.

Surviving are her step-sons William John Schmidt and wife Norma and Robert Joseph Schmidt and wife Susan all of Berlin Twp.; her sister-in-law Elizabeth Hiller of North Wales, PA; grandchildren Heidi Jennings and Donald Schmidt; great grandchildren Avery and Michael Jennings; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sister Shirley Bunnell; her brother Gerald Cousins and her grandson William John Schmidt Jr.

Her family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Allied Skilled Nursing and Rehab. Center and Hospice of the Sacred Heart.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 10th at St. Mary Magdalen Church at 10am. Interment will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Honesdale. Arrangements by Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. John the Evangelist Parish, 414 Church St. Honesdale, PA 18431.
