Mary E. Miszler, 98, of Hawley, died on Sunday, May 5, 2024 at Ellen Memorial Health Care Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Nicholas Miszler on December 24, 2014. The couple married on May 23, 1945.

Born on April 9, 1926 at the family home in Hawley, she was the daughter of the late George and Viola (Masker) Kovatis. An accomplished cook and baker, Mary worked at the former Cricket Hill Boarding House and Golf Club. In 2002, she retired from Cove Haven Resort where she worked in the kitchen.

She was a faithful member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale and prior to that at the former St. Joseph’s Church in White Mills. Although Mary worked professionally as a cook, her family and friends benefited at home because of her talent. She loved cooking and baking. Mary was also well known for her vegetable and flower gardens.

Surviving are her sons, Nicholas G. and wife Mandy of Hawley, Martin A. and wife Susan of Hawley, Kenneth J. of Honesdale, Edward V. and wife Susan of Hawley and Jeffrey B. and wife Donna of Hawley; Ruth A. Krell and husband Michael of Hawley; her son-in-law, William Shelton of Honesdale; sisters, Helen Falonk of Carbondale and Linda Hild of Hicksville, NY; 21 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sons, Richard and Victor; her daughter, Catherine M. Shelton; brother Peter Kovatis; sisters Stella Warner and Alice Wilson and her daughter-in-law Marlene Miszler.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 10th at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Honesdale at 10 am. Cremation will follow and private interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Honesdale. Friends may visit Hessling Murray Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale on Thursday, 4 to 7.
