Mary D. Howell, RN, 79, of Honesdale, died on Monday, June 1, 2015 at her home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas A. Howell on December 1, 2010. The couple married on September 5, 1964.

Born on December 22, 1935 in Bayside, NY, she was the daughter of the late George and Helen Buckley Kennedy. She attended nursing school at Flushing Hospital and continued to work there after receiving her nursing degree for over 20 years.

After retiring to Honesdale, she became a member of the Wayne County Historical Society, the Garden Club and recently was a member of the Silver Sneakers Club at the YMCA. Mary enjoyed the outdoors, whether it be going for a bike ride, gardening, bird watching or fishing. She also enjoyed mowing her yard.

Surviving is her son Michael Howell and wife Angie of Bellrose, NY; her daughter Margaret Ozcan and husband Ibo of North Bellmore, NY; her brother William “Bud” Kennedy of SC; grandchildren Deniz and Jimmy Ozcan; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son James Howell.

Friends may visit Hessling Funeral Home, Inc. 428 Main St. Honesdale on Wednesday, June 3rd, 2 to 4 and 6 to 8. As per her request, cremation will follow.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Wayne County Library, 1406 N. Main St. Honesdale, PA 18431.
