Marie K. (Coyne) Flederbach, 84, of Honesdale, died on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at her home. She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Richard “Dick” Flederbach on March 18, 1995. Born on February 6, 1930 in Honesdale, she was the daughter of the late James and Mae Stiles Coyne. A graduate of Honesdale High School, she later graduated from Keystone College and Marywood University receiving her bachelors degree in education. She received her masters degree and reading certification from the University of Scranton. She began teaching at the Hamlin Elementary School and later taught first grade at the Stourbridge School in Honesdale. She retired as a reading supervisor at Wayne Highlands School District. Marie was also a driving force in the PA State Parent Reading Advisory Council. Following her retirement, Marie became active in politics and was the first woman elected to the Honesdale Borough where she served for 12 years. She was also active in the Northern Wayne Democratic Party. Marie was a faithful member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale and its Altar and Rosary Society. She also participated in the Eucharistic Adoration Chapel since its inception. She was also an active member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. She is survived by her sons Rick Flederbach and wife Carol and Dave Flederbach and wife Sharon all of Honesdale; her daughter Mary Ann Blaskiewicz and husband Joseph of Honesdale; her sister Joanne Rickert of Warren, PA; grandchildren Ricky Flederbach and wife Hope, Mike Flederbach and wife Amy, Suzanne Dutton and husband Andy, Patrick and Julia Blaskiewicz; 8 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandson Scott Flederbach. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 6th at 10 am at St. John the Evangelist Church. Interment will follow in St. John’s Cemetery. Friends may visit Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale on Monday from 4 to 7.
