Margaret “Peggy” Mary Fontana, 81, of Honesdale and formerly of Manhasset, NY, died on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at her home. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert John Fontana in 1995.

Born on September 3, 1935 in Glen Cove, NY, she was the daughter of the late Theodore and Alice Flanagan Romanski. She was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Manhasset, NY and later attended Katharine Gibbs School.

For over 25 years, Margaret worked at St. Francis Hospital in Roslyn, NY where she began as a nurses aide and retired as the purchaser for the cardiac operating room. In 1998 she moved to Honesdale where she enjoyed her “retirement” working at the Wayne County Seniors Center, Days Bakery, Martin’s Hallmark Store and the JC Penny Catalog Store.

She made a lot of friends in Honesdale and enjoyed socializing and having breakfast at the Trackside Grill. Peggy also enjoyed her time cooking and reading.

Surviving are her sons Robert John Fontana and wife Leona of Fairfax Station, VA and Joseph William Fontana and wife Denise of Lindenhurst, NY; her daughters Margaret Ann Fontana of Honesdale, Beth Ann Tobar and husband Hector of Gibsonton, FL and Barbara Ann Lampaise and husband Leonard of Selden, NY; her brother Robert Romanski of Albuquerque, NM; her sisters Alice Pastor of Manhasset, NYand Kathleen Harty and husband Emmett of Westport, CT; grandchildren Hector Tobar, Tristan Nattrass, Jennifer Tobar, Lenny Lampaise, Jaclyn McKeon, Angelina Lampaise, Robert Lampaise, Adam Lampaise, Cassandra Fontana, Jackson Fontana, Cordel Fontana, Robert Fontana and Elizabeth Fontana; great grandchildren Cordin Nattrass, Harley Ann Nattrass, Grace Finley and Isabella Lampaise.

She was preceded in death by her brother Charles Romanski and close friend Clarence Osborne.

As per her request, cremation was held and a life celebration will be take place in the spring at the Knolls Cemetery, Port Washington, NY. Arrangements by Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale.
