Peggy was born Feb.25,1933 in Jersey City, NJ to Hugh and Maggie McGuigan (nee Bogan). She attended Benedictine Academy and graduated from Montclair State College. On July 4,1956, she married Robert Cox from East Orange, NJ and soon afterwards moved to Morris Plains where they raised their 9 kids. They were both very active in St. Virgil’s Church and school.
In 1986, Peggy and Bob became the proud owners of the Lookout General Store in Equinunk. Peggy was a member of the Equinunk Historical Society and was a member of St. Joseph’s Chapel where she sang in the choir. And she loved to sing. She was a poet, an artist but her biggest passion was writing. Most people in the area will forever remember Peggy’s weekly article in the Wayne Independent Newspaper.
Peggy is predeceased by her parents, her husband of 54 years Bob, her sons Thomas and Thomas William and her brother Hugh McGuigan. Peggy is survived by her sister Rosemary McGuigan of Toms River, NJ., her daughters Peggy (Joe Hetherington), Mary Doan (Duc) and Kathy Harris (Rob). Her sons Bob Jr.(Carly), Christopher (Sara), Jim, Michael and Dan. Her 12 grandchildren Amy Doan, Lauren Sankey (Josh), Derrick Harris (Liz), Kerrie Ridgway (Bill), Marta Harris (Andrew Daly), Gregory Alleva-Cox (Laura), Philip Alleva-Cox(Hannah), Rachel and Hannah Alleva-Cox, Owen and Kalen Cox, Jacob (Nicole), 3 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 29th at St. Joseph’s Church in Rileyville at noon. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Friends may visit Hessling Murray Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale on Tuesday, 9 to 11.
