M. Catherine (Ludwig) Schenck, 100, of Honesdale, died on Monday, September 12, 2016 at Wayne Woodlands Manor. She was preceded in death by her first husband Everett F. Ludwig and second husband Warren G. Schenck.

Born on August 1, 1916 in Paradise Valley, PA, she was the daughter of the late Curleigh A. Getz and Edna Woolbert Getz Heffelfinger.

She was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Honesdale, Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, and the Women’s Club of Bethany. Katy was an avid and formidable Pinochle Club player since 1938 and an ever-faithful fan of the New York Mets since 1962.

Surviving is her daughter Barbara K. Becker; step-sons Gary (Deborah) Schenck and Lee (Jean Ann) Schenck; grandsons Lucky L. (Linda) Gager and Scott W. (Raisa) Ludwig; step-grandchildren Matthew, David, Melissa and Jonathon Schenck; great grandsons Brent (Kris) Gager and Cory (Margaret Ann) Gager and Konraad Ludwig; great great granchildren Brody, Sean, Ryder, Sierra, Athena, and William Gager; many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are her many dear friends, especially Nancy and Alvin Swingle, Sheila Becker, Sharon Fish and Cheryl and Greg Celeskey.

She was preceded in death by her daughter Annette E. Gager; her son Wallace E. Ludwig; her step-father Rollin Heffelfinger; her sisters Josephine Possinger, Pauline Stevens, Verlo McGinnis, Hattie Woolard, Betty Darby, Mary Vertes and a step-sister Marion Nitsch.

A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 17th at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Honesdale at 11am. Her family will receive friends on Saturday, 10 until service time. Interment will follow in Glen Dyberry Cemetery, Honesdale. Arrangements by Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions can be made to St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 107 7th Street, Honesdale, PA 18431.

Katy had happily gone home at last. We will all miss her beautiful smile, her encouraging words, and her generous heart; but we are all so blessed to have known her.

Please honor Katy’s joyful spirit by wearing something bright and colorful to her service. She will surely smile on us all once again.
