Lucy Cargill Bonnington, 61, of Honesdale and San Antonio, TX, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton. She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Mark Robert Bonnington, MD. The couple married on March 23, 1975 in Austin, TX. Born on April 21, 1953 in Rochester, NY, she was the daughter of the late Louis Harold Cargill and Florence “Patty” Barthell Cargill Myers. Lucy graduated from the University of Texas, Austin, TX, with a BA in English and later received her BS as a Physician Assistant at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX, where she was president of her class and graduated with honors. She was an instructor at the University of Texas Health Science Center and over the years was a Physician Assistant working in the fields of child neurology, family medicine, dermatology and cardiovascular surgery. Lucy loved traveling, gardening, was a life-long learner and loved to cook. She enjoyed music, organizing concerts and supporting local artists in any way she could. Her favorite musician was John Lennon, who wrote “You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one.” A warm, loving, outgoing, and selfless person, Lucy was known to go to the Goodwill store and buy blankets and sleeping bags to give to the homeless on the streets of San Antonio, TX. She often went out of her way to help people. She is also survived by her son Colin Bonnington and her daughter Cara Bonnington both of Philadelphia. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 17th from 12 to 2pm at Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale. In lieu of flowers, friends and family will be making contributions to the Dessin Animal Shelter in Honesdale in her memory. (http://www.dessinshelter.com). Condolences: www.hesslingfuneralhome.com
