Lawrence W. Martone, Honesdale, unexpectedly passed away on January 15 at his home at the age of 87.

Born in Honesdale, he was the son of the late Louis & Vicenzia Cusati Martone. After graduating from Honesdale Catholic School in 1948, he entered the U.S. Army. He was wounded in action at Wonju, Korea for which he was awarded a Purple Heart. Upon his return home he was employed by his brother Vince at Martone’s Bar & Restaurant until 1971. He was subsequently employed by the PA Bureau of Traffic Safety, followed by the Wayne County Area Agency on Aging and the Honesdale Armory.

Larry also served as the director of Veteran’s Affairs for Wayne County, was Chief of the Honesdale Fire Department and life member of Hose Co. #1. He was a past board member of the Wayne Highlands School District, having served as its President.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his daughter Mary Martone; siblings Madeline, Louis, Filomena, Peter, and Vincent Martone. He is survived by his grandson Alec Bergen, sister Carolina Mearns, brother Robert Martone, several nieces and nephews.
