Kathleen Marie Higgins, 71, of Honesdale, died on Sunday, April 20, 2014 at the Commonwealth Hospice Unit at Regional Hospital in Scranton. Born on April 3, 1943 in Honesdale, she was the daughter of the late Robert E. and Helen R. Smith Higgins. She was a graduate of Honesdale Catholic High School, class of 1961 and later graduated from Lackawanna Junior College. She was employed at Katz Underwear Factory as a secretary and retired from the Wayne County Recycling Center in 2010 where she was a secretary. Kathy was a faithful and active member at St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale, participating in many church events. She is survived by her sister Margaret Seidel and husband James of Clarks Summit; a nephew Jeffrey Seidel; nieces Karen Rodgers and Ann Marie McGinley; several great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister Mary Ann Ennis, RN and her husband Gerald Ennis. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 23rd at 10am at St. Mary Magdalen Church, Honesdale. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. As per Kathy’s request, there will be no visitation. Arrangements by Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale.
