Julia M. Leonard, 96 of Pleasant Mount died on Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at home after a brief illness, surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas A. Leonard on December 12, 1984.

Born July 22, 1919 in Honesdale she was the daughter of the late Frank and Anna McGraw Farrell.

Julia was a graduate of the Pleasant Mount Academy. Prior to marriage she was employed by Metropolitan Life Insurance Company and Katz Factory. She operated a beef farm with her sons after her husband’s passing.

She was a member of St. Juliana’s Parrish and its Altar and Rosary Society; also, a former Democratic Committee woman for Mt Pleasant Township.

Julia enjoyed most being with her children, grandchildren and extended family. Also, she loved gardening, cooking and enjoyed a good laugh.

Surviving is her daughter, Peggy Kuhar and husband, Joseph of Dickson City, PA; son, Thomas J. of Pleasant Mount, PA; and a daughter, Mary F. Leonard of Pleasant Mount, PA; a granddaughter, Kristine Leonard and a great-grandson, Patrick Leonard.

She is survived by a sister, Theresa Farrell of Waymart, PA and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her son, Patrick Leonard; sisters, Beatrice Farrell, Ann Lynch, Elizabeth O’Hara, and Mary O’Hara; brothers, Francis, John and Paul Farrell.

The family would like to express its heart felt gratitude to Dr. Enrica Serrine, Traditional Hospice; Father, Patrick Albert; and Eucharistic ministers, Jim and Deb Biondo. A special place in our heart to her caregivers, Tina Frechen and Helen Dahlgren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 1st at St. Julianna’s Church, Rock Lake at 10 am by Reverend Patrick Albert, pastor.

Interment will follow in St. Juliana’s Cemetery. Friends may visit Hessling Funeral Home, Inc, 428 Main Street, Honesdale, PA 18431 on Friday, July 31, 2015 from 4 to 7.

In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Juliana’s Church Cemetery in Julia’s memory.
