Judith (Judy) Nan Pentecost, 82, passed peacefully on September 24, 2021 at Allied Services Hospice Center, Scranton, following an illness.

Born in Philadelphia, Judy was a daughter of the late Thelma A. Stookey, and niece to the late Marjorie and Herbert Holdren, of Honesdale, with whom she was jointly raised. She was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Corinne L. and Rod C. Follmer of Honesdale. Surviving is her brother Fred Stookey and wife Kay of Monroeton; niece Bonnie Reining and husband Dave; Beach Lake, niece Kim Follmer, Honesdale; nephew Mark Follmer and wife Pam, Bethany; nephew Todd Stookey and wife Laurie, Sterling; niece Angie Stroud and husband Michael, Monroeton; niece Kelly Stookey, Clearwater, Florida; cousin Howie Bryant and wife Mary Elizabeth, Honesdale; cousin Diane Spry, Honesdale, several beloved great nieces and nephews, and many devoted friends. She was a lifelong member of the Grace Episcopal Church in Honesdale.

Judy was raised in Honesdale, graduated from Honesdale High School, class of ‘57, and the Wayne Commercial School in 1960. For the majority of her working years, she was a Bookkeeper at Fowler Oil Company and enjoyed the interaction with fellow workers, drivers, and customers. She loved to kid around, tease, and have a good laugh with anyone willing to participate. It was often said that you knew where you stood with Judy, as she always spoke her mind, and was proud of it. There were many friends and acquaintances that appreciated her candor and honest observation.

Judy was devoted to her family and friends and loved talking and visiting with them whenever possible. She was a fan of racing, particularly following her cousin, Howie Bryant’s stock car career, and also loved watching Nascar. She enjoyed times with her dear friend Sharon Pohle (deceased) spending endless hours together with her and her family.

Judy was very fond of animals, especially dogs, and German Shepherds in particular. She volunteered for Dessin Animal Shelter for several years, and introduced this passion to her great niece Sara (Reining) Smith when she was quite young.

In accordance with her wishes, there will be no calling hours. An intimate family service will follow at a future date at the convenience of the family.

We wish to thank the staff at WMH ER with an extra heartfelt thank you for the comfort given by Doreen. Appreciation is also extended to the staff of the PCU unit at Geisinger CMC, Chaplain Kathy, the team at Allied Services Hospice Center, Pastor Mary Elizabeth Bryant, and for Rich Hessling and Brendan Murray at Hessling’s Funeral Home for such compassionate care.
