Juan Jose Mendez, 67, of Pleasant Mount, died on Sunday, April 19, 2020 at Wayne Memorial Hospital.  He is survived by his wife of 47 years, the former Edna Colon.  The couple married on October 6, 1973.

Born on July 21, 1952 in Puerto Rico, he was the son of the late Salustiano and Eugenia Mendez (nee Acevedo).   He was a US Marine Corp veteran who served during peacetime.  Juan continued to serve working for the city of Philadelphia both as a prison guard and later as a police officer until being injured and retired.

He and Edna retired to Pleasant Mount where he enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson and was a member of the Blue Knights Motorcycle Club.  He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. Juan also enjoyed tinkering around his home.  He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be missed terribly by his family.

Also surviving is his son Joseph Mendez of Pensacola, FL; his brother David Mendez and wife Patricia of Philadelphia; sisters Mildred Mendez and Steve Josel of Philadelphia and Teresa Mendez-Quigley and husband James Quigley of Erdenheim, PA; grandsons Michael and Aiden Mendez along with nieces and nephews.
