Joyce B. Grabler, 80, of Greeley, PA passed away on Sunday, January 16, 2022.
Born in Paterson, NJ on March 11, 1941 and raised in Haskell, Joyce was the daughter of the late Walter and Emmi (Bender) Grabler. After graduating from Butler High School in 1958, she went on to study at Sherwood School of Business.
Joyce was a hard-working, busy mom; she waitressed at Benny’s Luncheonette in Fair Lawn for several years and then at the Preakness Luncheonette after moving to Wayne in 1976. After raising her children, Joyce worked briefly at Bell Atlantic and later retired in 2006 from her career as a traffic manager at the Nikko Company. She also volunteered on the Pompton Falls Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
In addition to being a wonderful mother and loving grandmother, she was an avid reader and angler! Joyce taught all her grandchildren to fish, once besting an entire boat of seasoned fisherman by pulling in the largest Blue on a deep-sea trip with her grandson, Michael. Joyce liked to crochet and particularly enjoyed taking a drive with her co-pilot Chica to watch the eagles fly over the river.
Joyce was preceded in death by her long-time loving companion, Roy Wright. She and Roy loved to spend time together playing cards and getting together with friends to play music.
After retirement, Joyce moved to Greeley where she became a faithful member of St. John Neumann Parish in Lords Valley, PA. There she volunteered in the parish office when needed.
Joyce joins her daughter Tammy Marie Dougherty and grandson Michael Dougherty, Jr. in Heaven. She will also be greeted there by her beloved dogs, Shilo and Peanut.
Surviving is her son Michael Dougherty and wife Paula of Oak Ridge, NJ; her son Kenneth Dougherty of Butler, NJ; grandchildren Ryan Dougherty and wife Nicole, Allison Dougherty and Caitlyn Dougherty.
Due to the recent COVID outbreak, a private viewing for the immediate family will take place. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 21, 2022, at St. John Neumann Parish in Lords Valley at 10:00 a.m. (Masks and social distancing are required at the service.) A future memorial service is planned. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John Neumann Parish.
