Joseph R. Kandrovy  71, of Bethany PA  died unexpectedly Friday Evening at home. He and his wife Patricia A. Klepadlo were married for 44 years.

Joe was a native of the Wyoming Valley, he was raised in West Wyoming  PA.  Son of the late Michael and Anna Kandrovy.  Growing up he and his family attended St. Nicholas Byzantine Church in Swoyersville PA. Joe graduated from West Wyoming High School in 1962. He enlisted in the Army and served his country during the Vietnam War while stationed in the Korean Theater. He then attended Luzerne County Community College and graduated from  Mansfield State College, receiving a bachelor’s degree in Education emphasis in Physical Sciences in 1971. He taught at Tunkhannock Area School District for 27 years as a science teacher.  He was actively part of the Tunkhannock community coaching school sports, youth sports, his kids and instrumental on developing the Tiger Ball youth basketball program.

He served on the Board of the WCSE Federal Credit Union for 30+ years. After retirement, he was an active member of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees (PASR). He served as Wayne chapter president, legislative chairman, Region 3 legislative chairman, and as presently Region 3 Director Elect. He also was an all around maintenance man at Ellen Memorial Health care facility.

His passions were naming all the stars in the sky, golfing, hunting, fishing, teaching his grand children, debating, and driving his BMW convertible. He was a member of St John the Evangelist Church in Honesdale and a member of the choir. Surviving are his three children, Joseph M. Kandrovy, Jenelle Gaffney and her husband Kevin, and John Kandrovy and his wife Alison.   Grand children Logan, Dayton and Riley Kandrovy.  Madison , Colin and Natalie Gaffney.  He has many nieces and nephews.  Joe was preceded in death by his Brother Michael Kandrovy Danielson CT and sister Mary Ann Dzurisin of West Wyoming PA.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 24th at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, Honesdale at 10am. Friends may visit Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale on Thursday, 5 to 8. All visitors are asked to use the 5th Street entrance. As per his request, cremation will follow with interment at a later date.

Memorial contributions can be made to St. Joseph Center at Trinity Daycare Scranton PA  and St Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church in Swoyersville PA.
