Joseph Martin McDonnell, 86, of Honesdale, died on Monday, August 24, 2015 at Elmcroft of Mid Valley, Peckville where he was residing. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Brigid Lynch on August 2, 2006. The couple married on December 9, 1956.

Born on December 17, 1928 in West Homestead, PA, he was the son of the late Gregory and Theresa Keane McDonnell. He was a US Navy veteran, serving during peacetime. Before retiring in 1992, he was employed by the US Postal Service in New Jersey.

He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale and active in its Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Chapel before taking ill.

He is survived by his daughter Theresa “Terry” Dunn Weniger and husband Don of Honesdale; his sister Mary Turlik and husband John of Rockville, MD; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his infant son, Joseph M. on May 1, 1959; his brother William “Jerry” McDonnell; his sister Theresa Connolly.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 28th at St. Mary Magdalen Church, Honesdale at 10am. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. There will be no public visitation. Arrangements by Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale.
