Joseph A. Kelly, Jr., 78, of Honesdale, died on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at his home. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Catherine E. Walker on June 2, 2013. The couple married on September 21, 1963.

Born on August 1, 1941 in Carbondale, he was the son of the late Joseph A. Sr. and Catherine McDonough Kelly. He was a graduate of Pleasant Mount High School and later served in the Pennsylvania National Guard.

For many years, Joe owned and operated a dairy and beef farm in Pleasant Mount before starting his fencing business. For 20 years, he owned and operated Joe Kelly Fencing. For many years, Joe served on the board of ACS and was a member of the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau. He was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Parish, attending St. Juliana’s Church in Rock Lake.

Surviving is his son Patrick Kelly and wife Suzanne of Honesdale; daughters Karen Malsky and husband Joseph of Glastonbury, CT and Mia Jonas and husband Bill of Cold Springs; brothers James Kelly and wife Jean and Paul Kelly and wife Colleen all of Pleasant Mount; his sister Mary Ellen Douglass of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren Kathryn Jonas, Lauren VanSickle and husband Dirk, Emily Jonas and fiancée Eric Diehl, Zack and Noah Malsky and Michael and Kara Kelly.

He was preceded in death by his brother Michael Kelly and brother-in-law Bill Douglass.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, December 19th at St. James Church in Pleasant Mount at 10 am. Interment will be in St. Cecelia’s Cemetery, Hilltop. Friends may visit Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale on Wednesday, 4 to 7.
