John Paul Duda, 69, of Honesdale, died on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton. He is survived by his wife, the former Sarah M. Robbins. The couple would have celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary on April 14th.

Born on April 17, 1952 in Scranton, John was adopted when he was 2 months old by his parents, John S. and Olga Marie (Novotny) Duda. He was a graduate of Honesdale High School, class of 1970. In 1972, John graduated from Ryder Technical Institute with an associates degree in electronics and became a certified biomedical equipment technician (CBET) at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

He later worked for Diasonics, Inc., specializing in cardiac ultrasound equipment. Before retiring in 2018, John worked for GE Healthcare as Northeast Region Support in Radiology.

John served as Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 103 for several years at which time the troop won several awards in first aid.

An accomplished musician, he began playing the accordion at the age of 6. He also taught himself to play the keyboard, guitar, banjo and harmonica. He played in several bands over the years, Blue Perception, Stardust, and the Sal Martin Revue. He was also a DJ for many years. A member of the Central United Methodist Church, he also played in their jazz band and in the choir.

He was also a Ham Radio operator with the first call letters, “WA3SOY.” He also became a licensed Military Radio operator (MARS). He continued to take great interest and remained active as Ham Radio operator. John also was interested in restoring Tube Radios. He also enjoyed gardening, especially growing his own garlic.

In addition to his wife, John is survived by his sons, Christopher Duda of Honesdale and Kevin Duda and wife Adriana of Bethany; his sister Deborah Duda and caregiver, Dolores Batzel of Waymart. He is also survived by the joy of his life, his grandchildren, Paul and Leila Rae Duda. Also surviving are many sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law; nieces, nephews and 2 biological sisters and 3 biological brothers.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 23rd at the Central United Methodist Church in the Wesley Room in Honesdale at 11 am. Arrangements by Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale.
