John C. Doherty Sr., 85, of Honesdale, died on Saturday, November 15th, 2014 at home. His wife, the former Lois Snyder Doherty, died in 1997. He was the oldest son of Charles and Ona Watson Doherty. He was a graduate of Honesdale Catholic School and was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church. He was a veteran of the US Navy having served on the USS Midway. In his early years he was employed by Korb Electric, and Matthews Sunoco Gas Station. Later in life he was production manager at Chroma Tube. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his sons, Gary and wife, Pam; John Jr. and daughter Linda, all of Honesdale. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren, Stephanie Zarr and husband, Michael of Montgomery, PA; Steven Doherty and wife, Amy of King of Prussia, PA; Sandra Schwartz and husband, Ken of Wilkes-Barre, PA; Jenna Rae Whitmore and husband, Jeff of Galilee, PA; Kevin Zablocky and wife, Sarah of Thompson, PA; Scott Zablocky and wife, Jessica of Forest City, PA; 6 great grandchildren, Morgan Doherty, Emmaline Zarr, Daniel and David Schwartz, Carson Zablocky and Truly Zablocky. He is also survived by brothers Paul, Jerry, Rich and Chuck and sisters, Marilyn, Madelyn, Winifred, Ona, Grace, and Karen. He was preceded in death by brothers, Joe, Bill, Jim and Mike, as well as, 5 infant siblings. John’s family wishes to extend special and heartfelt thanks to the nurses, nurses aides, and support staff of the Wayne Memorial Hospice for the exceptional care and comfort provided to Dad. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, Nov. 20th at St. Mary Magdalen Church at 10 am. As per his request, cremation will follow with interment in St. John’s Cemetery. Friends may visit Wednesday from 4 to 7 at Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale. Memorial contributions can be made to Wayne Memorial Hospice, 601 Park St. Honesdale, PA 18431.
