Joseph John Washeleski, 81, of Honesdale, died on Tuesday, January 21, 2014, at Julia Ribaudo Extended Care in Lake Ariel. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Mary K. Pazel, on June 5, 2010. Born on November 25, 1932, in Forest City, he was the son of the late Stanley and Helen Gumbach Washeleski. He was a graduate of Forest City High School and Temple University’s School of Pharmacy. Joe also served in the US Army from 1955 to 1957. A Registered Pharmacist, Joe worked for Scureman’s Drug Store and Glinsky’s Drug Store, both in Honesdale, and Burke’s Pharmacy in Scranton. Joe was an avid fisherman and spent many hours on Bunnell’s Pond. And when he wasn’t fishing, he was often seen walking around the pond collecting trash that had been strewn on the side of the road. He enjoyed gardening, collecting coins, bowling, playing cards, eating ice cream, watching (and predicting) the weather, and going for drives in the country and walks in the woods. He was a lifelong Phillies and Eagles fan, and while he never golfed, he frequently watched it on TV. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale. Surviving are his daughters Patricia Washeleski of Plymouth Meeting, PA, and Catherine Rosenkrans of York, PA, and his grandsons Ethan, Alex And Seth Rosenkrans. He was preceded in death by his son Thomas Washeleski on December 3, 2013 and his sister Dorothy Hiznay. Cremation services are being arranged by Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St., Honesdale. A Funeral Mass for Joe and Thom will be celebrated on Saturday, February 1st at 10am at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Honesdale. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made in Joe’s memory to the Wayne County Creative Arts Council, 627 Main Street, Honesdale, PA, or the Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090.
