Jean Mary Schott passed away on November 5th, 2018 at the age of 99 and a half while residing at Ellen Memorial Nursing Home in Honesdale, Pa. Jeanne, born on June 5th, 1919, was the daughter of Hilda Wassman and Leo McGowan. She was also the only sister to brothers Bud, Robert and James. Jeanne, preceded in death by her loving husband Vincent Joseph Schott after 64 years of marriage, in September of 2004. Surviving are three sons: Richard Schott and wife Judy of Honesdale, Pa., David Schott and wife Betty of Bradenton, FL., and Vincent Schott of Honesdale, PA. Surviving also are 6 grandchildren: Keith Schott and wife Kim of Cumming, GA., Ellen Wertman and husband Mark of Honesdale, PA., Karen Oakey and husband Chris of Gainesville, FL., Linda Hausken and husband Rob of Tomball, TX., Peter Schott and wife Deborah of Savannah, GA , and Michael Schott and wife Jennifer of Beach Lake, PA. Jeanne is survived as well by 8 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Jeanne was a forerunner of female entrepreneurs running a boarding house out of her home during the 1940’s, raising her children through the 1950’s and 60’s. By the 1970’s she became an accredited ceramic instructor, running her ceramic shop out of her home as well through the 1980’s. Jeanne and her husband Vincent spent a large part of their later years as snowbirds in Bradenton, FL.; also known as “Little Honesdale”. Jeanne enjoyed both oil and watercolor painting along with feeding hummingbirds, and passing on a love for the game of Spades to many in her family. Full of spunk, Jeanne often had a large pot of chili for the half-time card game reflections.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, November 17th at St. Mary Magdalen Church, Honesdale at 10 am. Private interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, Nov. 16th at Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale, 3 to 6. All attending are asked to use the 5th Street entrance.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests choosing a children’s charity to donate in memory of Jeanne.
