Jean M. Bidwell, 85, of Honesdale, died on Friday, April 22, 2022 at Bethany Village. She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Bidwell on March 18, 2013. The couple married on October 19, 1957 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Born on May 7, 1936 in Galilee, PA, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Bertha (White) Dickhut. In 1952 she graduated from Damascus High School at the age of 16. She was captain of the cheer leading squad and was president of the Homemakers of America. Following high school, she attended Wayne Commercial School. For 31 years, Jean was employed at Highhouse Oil Company until retiring in 2001.

An active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Honesdale, she served as the church treasurer for 12 years. For over 20 years, Jean was a leader assistant for Weight Watchers.

Jean loved gardening and was well known for her flowers around her home. She also enjoyed reading and traveling.

Surviving is her son Randy Bidwell and wife Amy of Honesdale; her daughters, Tammie Bea of Palm Coast, FL and Kathy Bidwell of Honesdale; her companion, Charles Case of Honesdale; sisters, Joyce Southerton (Jack) of Honesdale and Chris Derrick (Harold) of Beach Lake; sister-in-law, Kathy Dickhut of Dover Plains, NY; grandchildren, Sarah Stanton (Trev) and Cody Stanton (Cindy), Kalean Mitchell (Nolan), Paige and Megan Bidwell and Rachel Fritz; great grandchildren, Nora and Barrett Stanton and Paislee Mitchell; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Joan Erhardt (Alfred) and brother, Joseph A. Dickhut.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 7th at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Honesdale at noon. The family will receive friends 10 until the time of service in the church. Arrangements by Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale.
