Jay Thomas Mattox, 58, of Honesdale, died on Thursday, January 5, 2023 at Wayne Memorial Hospital following an illness. He is survived by the love of his life for over 20 years, Kathleen M. Landers.

Born on April 8, 1964 in Atlanta, GA, he was the son of the late John and Willie Ruth Mattox. Jay spent four years in the US Air Force where he was trained in aircraft electrical systems. He later used his training to have a career as an industrial electrician. Jay’s career took him around the country working at Lear Siegler, Dundee Mills, Lockheed Support Systems, Summerville Games and retiring from Weyerhaeuser in Washington state.

Jay enjoyed gardening especially caring for his orchids. He enjoyed traveling visiting caves and mines and took great interest in different rocks. He also became interested in astrology watching the skies with his telescope. A cook, he was well known for his barbecue pulled pork. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Everything Jay was interested in, he included the kids. Whether it was a trip to see a cave or having a Christmas sleepover, he enjoyed the time spent together.

He is survived by his step-children, Amy Johannes and husband David, Michael Slish and wife Lisa, Stephen Slish and wife Deborah and Nicholas Slish and wife Season; his siblings, Diana Mattox Darwiche, Jeffrey Lynn Mattox, Joel Richard Mattox, Melissa Kay Mattox, Jason Andrew Mattox and his wife Jada-Leigh; 10 grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
