Jane Canivan Rickard, 83, died peacefully on Saturday, January 14th 2023.

Born in Honesdale on January 30 1939 to the late Paula Muenkel Canivan and Robert C. Canivan, M.D., Jane graduated from Honesdale Catholic High School and went to what was then known as Marywood College to pursue her passion for art.

Although her love for painting continued throughout her life, she chose to marry the love of her life Gerald F. Rickard and start her family of 10 children, raising them all on the family dairy farm. Through her life and actions she taught her children about love, dedication, faith, and strength.

Jane is survived by her children Paula Bennett, M.D. and husband Scott, Mari Wilcox and husband Alan, Robert Rickard and wife Suzanne, Carol Lienert, CRNP and husband Mark, SFC Gene Rickard and wife Melissa, DNP, Martin Rickard and wife Sandy, Sibyl Rickard, M.D. and fiancé Hon. Matthew L. Meagher, and Matthew Rickard and wife Michelle. Jane is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, her sister Paula Canivan, brother-in-law Clarence Rickard, Jr., sister-in-law Lurana Gitch (the matchmaker who made this family possible) and husband Tom, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loving family.

Jane’s family would like to thank Sinclairs caregivers, Bethany Village, and her best friend from childhood, Janet Lamberton, whose voice she always recognized immediately and who brought her so much joy with all of her visits.

Jane was preceded in death by her beloved Jerry, son Luke Christian, daughter Mary Ann McCormick, O.D., sister Carol Canivan Anton, M.D., and sisters-in-law Wanda Daghir and Elizabeth Racht.
