Born in Mytilene, Lesvos, Greece on March 30, 1937, he was the son of the late Stavros and Stella Glykokokalos. Yanni earned an engineering degree in Athens, Greece and worked for the Greek Merchant Marines. When he was 20, he moved to the United States and settled in the Bronx, NY. There he began a framing business and worked on his art. He served in the US Army and was stationed in Alaska.

In 1986 he moved his frame shop and studio, Natural Wood Frames, to Honesdale. An abstract expressionist, Yanni became well known in the area as a painter. He and his wife, Pauline, are founding members of the Wayne County Arts Alliance. He was also a member of SS. Peter and Paul Orthodox Church in Uniondale.

Along with his art, he enjoyed fishing, gardening, movies, reading, and classical music.

His family include Yanni’s son, Steven Glykokokalos and wife Sybil of Florida; his daughters Elizabeth Kedrick of Honesdale and Xenia Kugler and husband Christopher of State College, PA; grandchildren Steven Glykokokalos and his wife Jessylyn of Connecticut and Alyssa Glykokokalos of Arizona.

He is preceded in death by his son John Glykokokalos. His marriage to Pauline was preceded by marriages to Helen, Marsha, Lene and Lisa.
