Guerrino (Jerry) Vlacich, 76, of Honesdale died Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at Hospice at Wayne Memorial Hospital surrounded by family.

Born onJuly 1, 1946 in Istria Croatia, he came to the United States as a young boy. He was an Army veteran, and retired from the Mass Transit Authority of New York in 1996. Retired, he settled in Honesdale with his family.

He is survived by his wife Anna (Schemitz) Vlacich of 52 years. Also Surviving are his sons Jerry (Rosaria), Honesdale, PA, David (Kimberly) Mastic Beach, New York, Robert (Mindy), Montoursville, Pa, grandchildren: Cristofer (wife-Bianca), Nicolas (girlfriend Kailyn Croucher), Matthew, Kaitlyn, Briar, Brody, and Caden, brother in laws and sister in laws: Donald and Linda Pontosky, Lake Ariel, Pa, Francine Schemitz, Honesdale, Pa, nieces and nephews: Alex, Tiffany (Frank Dzwieleski), Destiny, and Russell.

Jerry was an active traveler, he enjoyed taking his wife Anna on spur of the moment trips. He would think “Hey let’s go get BBQ”, and then drive her to Syracuse for Dinosaur Ribs or go for an overnight for Lobster in Maine. His mind was a road map with adventures waiting. He loved to just drive. He was a motorcycle enthusiast, belonging to many bike clubs. His true passions were his wife, kids, and grandkids. Also taking many family vacations, cruises, Disney beach trips, hunting and fishing trips. Seeing them have fun made him happy. His heart was huge, he was a true giver. He would talk to anyone and always had a kind word or smile even to strangers. He was always lending a hand or saying a kind word to everyone.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father in law, Maria and Rudolf Schemitz, and brother in law Rudy Schemitz, and niece Tara Ann Pontosky.

A Blessing Service will be held on Friday, Sept. 30th at Hessling Murray Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale at 7pm. The family will receive friends, 4 until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Ronald McDonald House of Scranton or The Legacy of Rudy Schemitz Scholarship Fund at The Dime Bank.
