Gerald J. Weniger, Sr., 85, of Honesdale, died on September 18, 2015 at Bethany Village where he was residing. He leaves his wife of 63 years, Marie Jean (Crockenberg) Weniger.

He was born on August 29, 1930, the son of the late Charles J. Weniger and Mary E. (O’Brien) Weniger.

His survivors also include his 4 children – daughter Margaret M. Pender and husband Donald Pender Jr., son Charles F. Weniger and wife Patricia (Arreaga) Weniger, son Gerald J. Weniger Jr. (Joe) and wife Jody (Clark) Weniger and daughter Jean Marie Viscounte and husband Jonathon T. Viscounte. Twelve grandchildren – Mary Ursich, Emily Jackson and husband William, Timothy M. Pender and wife Lindsey, Donald T. Pender, III and wife Anita, Rebecca Pender, Gerald R. Weniger and wife Grace, Ellen DiMola and husband Michael, Camilyn Leavitt and husband Christian, Ashten Weniger, Anthony Viscounte and wife Amparo, Domenic Viscounte and Gabrielle Viscounte. Fourteen great grandchildren, his sister Elizabeth (Betty) Jackson, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister Esther M. Weniger and brothers Donald F. Weniger and J. Bernard (Bud) Weniger.

He was a graduate of Honesdale Catholic High School and Wayne Commercial School. He gained his electronics education and experience in the US Army and IBM Corporation. He started Weniger Electronics in 1955.

He was a member of The American Legion, Hose Co. #1, Knights of Columbus Council 363 and St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church where he was a lector. He was one of the founders of the Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Chapel at St. Mary Magdalen Church and a member of the Honesdale Country Club.

In 1975 Mr. Weniger was elected to Borough Council of Honesdale. He also served as a director of the Dime Bank for 16 years.

Upon retirement, he volunteered for Meals on Wheels, the American Red Cross and the American Cancer Society.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 22nd at St. Mary Magdalen Church, Honesdale at 10 am. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday at Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale, 5 to 8.

Memorial contributions will be gratefully accepted by The American Cancer Society or St. John the Evangelist Parish.
