Frank F. Bunnell, 92, of Honesdale died Thursday, January 24, 2019. Born April 05, 1926, Honesdale, he was the son of the late William and Martha Bunnell.

 

He is preceded in death by his wife the late Shirley Cousins Bunnell, his son Joseph G. Bunnell, and brother John “Jack” Bunnell and son-in-law Richard Doherty.  He was a member of the St. John the Evangelist Parish, attending St. Mary Magdalen Church.

He was a graduate from Honesdale Catholic High School.  After High school he met and married Shirley Cousins on April 20, 1950. He worked at Bailey’s furniture factory along with taking on the family farm. He and Shirley went on to have seven children. When Shirley got sick and passed away January 07, 1973 he took on  the task of raising seven children the youngest three and oldest twenty-one. Five boys and two girls which kept him extremely busy and was also very, demanding, challenging and  difficult at times, but he never gave up and was always there for his children.

He instilled a very good work ethic in his children and grandchildren. After he retired at the age of 76 he drove currier for banks in the local area. He was a great family matriarch for his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.   He loved family picnics and gathering with his family.

He is survived by

Sons Robert (Jane) Bunnell, Ronald (Pam) Bunnell, Mark (Lori) Bunnell, Paul (Michelle) Bunnell, all of Honesdale.

Daughters Marie Doherty, Michelle (John) Blockberger Jr., Daughter in law Hertha Kastler, all of Honesdale.

Grand Children Sarah Bunnell, New York, Wyatt, Eric Bunnell of Honesdale, Jason Doherty and Mathew Doherty of Honesdale, and John Blockberger, III of Colorado. Catherine, Emily, Will, Lauren, and Rebecca Bunnell of Honesdale, Amy Wiggans of Tunkhannock, Fletcher and Zeta Bunnell of Honesdale. .

Great Grand Children Katelyn and Jacob Hawley , Caleb Wiggans, of Tunkhannock, Zachary, ,Meaghan, Madison and Vidia Doherty of Honesdale.

His family would like to thank the staff of Ellen Memorial Health Care Center and WMH Hospice for their kind and compassionate care.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 30th at St. Mary Magdalen Church, Honesdale at 10 am.  Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery in the spring.  As per his request, there will be no public visitation.  Arrangements by Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale.
