Florence Ann “Sue” Whittaker, 80, of Tafton, died on Monday, January 20, 2025 at Twin Cedars Senior Living in Shohola. She is survived by her husband, Louis “Skip” Whittaker. The couple would have celebrated their 62nd anniversary on April 20th.

Born in Elmira, NY on April 24, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Clara (Christian) Nichols. For 29 years, she was a secretary at Wallenpaupack Area School District.

A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Sue enjoyed cooking and working on ceramics. She especially looked forward to her “Christmas Cookie Day” where she would have family and friends help make cookies for everyone who was apart of her life. She loved spending time with her grandchildren who affectionately called her “GG.”

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughters, Laura DeYoung and husband John of Hawley and Teresa Niles and husband John of Lake Ariel; her sister, Mina DeRenzo of Elmira, NY; grandchildren, Cassandra Lyons, Brittany Kelly, Randi DeYoung, Veronica Loughran and Derek Niles; 11 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Rex Nichols and sister, Belle Connis.

Sue’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Twin Cedars and Compassionate Care Hospice for their exceptional care during her time there.

Friends may visit Hessling Murray Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale on Friday, Jan. 24th, 1 to 4. A graveside service will be held on Monday, Jan. 27th in Forest Hills Memorial Park in Elmira, NY at 11 am.
