Ethel C. Rose, 86, of Cherry Ridge, died on Friday, August 28, 2015 at Julia Ribaudo Extended Care in Lake Ariel. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Edmund J. Rose. The couple married on June 5, 1954.

Born on April 6, 1929 in Lake Ariel, she was the daughter of the late Amzi B. and Agnes Schneider Cook. She was a graduate of Lake Consolidated School, class of 1948 and later graduated from Wayne Commercial School.

She began working at Brantley’s Knitting Mill in Honesdale before being hired at the Wayne County Courthouse where she was a secretary in the Commissioners Office and later at Children and Youth.

Ethel was a past member of the Business Professional Women’s Club. She was a member at the Lake Ariel Methodist Church, the Order of the Easter Star and the Pleasant Valley Grange.

Her hobbies include crocheting, leather working and was known to be a ferocious Bingo player. Most of all, Ethel enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Also surviving is her son Joseph Rose and wife Beth of Honesdale; her daughter Tammy McLane and husband Robert of Lake Ariel; sisters-in-law Doris Cook and Anita Cook; grandchildren Michael McLane, DO, Robert McLane and wife Amy, Kathleen “Katie” Rose, Jacqueline “Jacki” Henderson and husband Steve and Daniel Rose; great grandson Nathaniel Henderson; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sisters Elizabeth Gorton and Jean Turner; brothers Arthur, William, Alfred, Harold and Ernest Cook.

Ethel’s family would like to thank the staff and doctors at Julia Ribaudo for their exceptional care during her stay there.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 2nd at Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale at 10am by Rev. Fred Snyder. Interment will follow in Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst, PA. The Order of the Easter Star will perform their service, Wednesday at 9:45. Friends may visit the funeral home on Tuesday, 4-7.
