Ernest “Tom” Morgan, 77, of Honesdale, died on Thursday, May 15, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife, the former Joyce LaPoint. The couple would have celebrated their 56th anniversary on May 17th. Born on March 7, 1937 in Hawley, he was the son of the late John Louis and Hazel Riefler Morgan. At the age of 5, his family moved to Honesdale where he attended Honesdale Catholic School. Later he served in the US Navy from 1954 to 1958 as a gunner’s mate on the USS Stockham. Tom was an avid card player, loved to golf and his family and being with friends at Dunkin’ Donuts. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish. Also surviving are his daughters Kathleen Johnson and husband Scott, Suzanne O’Neill and husband John and Christine Morgan; grandchildren Brandon and Carissa Morgan, Eric O’Neill and wife Whitney, Angela O’Neill, as well as two step-grandsons Michael and Steven Johnson. He also has four great grandchildren Shawn and Mackenzi Giblin and Chloe and Ayradaiah Morgan; his sisters Mary Smith and husband Terry, Pat Klinkiewicz and husband Paul, Rita Rouette and husband Roger; a brother Jerry Morgan; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters Betty Kowalczyk , Bonnie Young and Jeanne Olver; a brother Jackie Morgan and a nephew Bruce Potter, Jr. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 20th at 10 am at St. Mary Magdalen Church, Honesdale. As per his request, cremation will follow with interment in St. John’s Cemetery. Friends may visit Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale on Monday from 4 to 7.
