Edward S. Guinther, 95, a resident at Bethany Village and formerly of Honesdale, died on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at Wayne Memorial Hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Doris M. Johnson on October 4, 2012. The couple married May 11, 1940.

Born on November 2, 1919 in Honesdale, he was the son of the late George and Rebecca Dean Guinther. Over the years, Ed was employed at Banner Slipper, Loomis, Yuba and Katz Underwear Factory. He also was a bartender at Creasey’s Bar and a baker at the Miracle Market in Honesdale.

Ed was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale, a life member of Texas #4 Fire Co. and the Wayne County Historical Society. Ed was proud to share his stories of the past with Kim Erickson whose book, Honesdale, will release this Friday.

Ed enjoyed being active whether it be fishing or golfing. Until recently, Ed was still known to go for a walk around town.

Surviving is his daughter Mary Ann Glisson of Glenmoore, PA; his sons Daniel Sr. and wife Patricia of Honesdale, Robert and wife Betty of Dalzell, SC, Michael and wife Debbie of Spotsylvania, VA and John and wife Vicky of Chula Vista, CA; a sister Grace Augello of Honesdale; 13 grandchildren Jill Goodman, Daniel Guinther Jr., Kathleen, Todd, and Tracy Glisson, Stephanie Grippe, Barbara Snipes, Michelle Cutlip, Tammy Richardson, Destiny French, Romeo Ayonar, Christopher Guinther, and Anna Lisa Ochoa; 20 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Austin, Dean, Robert and James Guinther; sisters Florence and Catherine Dulay and Sister Jacinta (Betty) Guinther, I.H.M.; his granddaughter Mary Sue Scholfield and his son-in-law George Glisson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 17th at 10 am at St. John the Evangelist Church, Honesdale. Interment will follow in St. John’s Cemetery. Friends may visit Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale on Thursday, 4 to 7.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Wayne Memorial Hospice, 601 Park St. Honesdale, PA 18431.
