Edmund “Ned” J. Grimes, 72, of Lake Ariel, died on Saturday, December 31, 2016 at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Born on August 18, 1944 in Scranton, he was the son of the late Edmund J. Sr. and Kathryn F. O’Rourke Grimes. He was graduate of Archbald High School, class of 1962. He later Scranton State General Hospital X-Ray Technician program in 1964.

He served in the Pennsylvania National Guard for six years and was awarded the General Thomas J. Stewart Medal.

Ned was employed at Wayne Memorial Hospital for 46 years as a Nuclear Medicine Tech. He was passionate about his career and regarded the radiology department as his second family. He retired in 2009.

He was an avid reader and enjoyed taking hikes.

Surviving is his son Robert J. Grimes and wife Marcy of Prompton; his sister MaryEllen Grimes of New York, NY; a grandson Dillon Gavin of Prompton and a cousin Jane Osterhout of Clarks Summit, PA.

His family would like to thank Dr. Cruse, the Wayne Memorial Hospice team and the nurses and staff of Wayne Memorial Hospital for Ned’s final hours of respite care.

As per his request, cremation will be held and there will be no public services. Arrangements by Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale, PA.

Because of Ned’s love of reading and books, his family has requested memorial contributions be made to the Wayne County Public Library, 1406 N. Main St. Honesdale, PA 18431
