Dorothy (Richards) Rosenkrans Hyser, 89, of Honesdale, died on Sunday, January 15, 2017 at Ellen Memorial Health Care Center surrounded by family. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harrison Tripp Rosenkrans on January 12, 1985 and her second husband Gordon Hyser on January 12, 2013.
Born on April 27, 1927 in Scranton, she was the daughter and last surviving member of the William and Sinah Phillips Richards family. She was a graduate of West Scranton High School.
A housewife and loving mother, Dorothy was a secretary in Scranton before raising her family. She was also a former gray lady at Wayne Memorial Hospital. Following her husband’s retirement they enjoyed spending winters in Bradenton, FL.
A member of Bethany United Methodist Church, she and Harrison formed a Sunday School class for adolescents.
Until recently, Dorothy enjoyed square dancing and line dancing. Her family would see her fierce competiveness in games of Skip Bo which was always played when family was together.
Surviving are her children, Darlene Copeland and husband Jim of Little Meadows, PA, Gordon Rosenkrans of York, PA and Rebecca Murray and husband Ted of Honesdale; grandchildren Greg Tenbus, Traci Aultman, Tami Tenbus, Ethan, Alex and Seth Rosenkrans, Brendan, Andy, Edward and Benjamin Murray; 16 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brother William Richards, sisters Connie Jones and Eleanor Swift and an infant brother Thomas Richards.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 20th at Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale at noon. Friends may visit Friday 11 to service time. Interment will follow in Bethany Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Bethany United Methodist Church or Central United Methodist Church.
