Dorothy Eliza Gevert, daughter of Lorin G. and Flora Mae Stinnard Fleming, having recently celebrated her 101st birthday, left our mortal world behind on Friday, September 5th. In the company of a loving friend, she died peacefully at the Forest Park Nursing Home in Carlisle, PA Dorothy, “Dot”, is survived by many loving family members and friends. Born before the “War to end all wars”, she grew up in Honesdale, PA, where she met and married her predeceased husband William, who died in 1985. Her daughter Louise Cook, nee Gevert, and loving son-in-law Richard Cook, took care of her for many years in Carlisle, PA, after she left her Erie St. residence, her home since the 1940’s. During WWII, using her seamstress skills for more than sewing for Katz’s factory for over 60 years, she carefully and secretly sewed coffee and sugar into the linings of winter coats bound for Germany, to family members in dire need. If Dorothy wanted to help someone in need, borders would not stop her. She is survived by her daughter Louise, and son-in-law Richard Cook; three grandsons, Mickey, James, and Robert Cook; many grandchildren and great grandchildren, and many friends, new and old, including some very special aides, Mel, Tina, and Abbey. Please pardon my tangled grammar, but there is no one who didn’t like Dorothy. She made friends easily and remembered them for her lifetime; Friends of many generations past and present. Always a generous, giving soul to all she met. She will be missed sorely, but remember very fondly. Funeral services will be held at Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale, PA on Wednesday, Sept. 17th at 11am with Pastor Rob Kazinski officiating. Friends may visit Wednesday, 9 to service time. Following the service, Dorothy will be laid to rest next to her husband William, at the Indian Orchard Cemetery, resting place of her own parents and siblings and many friends.
