Delvennia M. “Del” Smith, 85, of Honesdale, died on Sunday, March 17, 2024 at Wayne Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael R. Smith Sr. on May 22, 1988.

 

Born on February 2, 1939 in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Parker and Gladys (Williams) Brink. Del worked for many years as a certified nurses assistant at Ellen Memorial and retired from Bethany Village.

 

She enjoyed playing Bingo, reading and working on crossword puzzles. She faithfully watched Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune in the evenings and could always solve the puzzle with just a letter or two much to the amazement of her family. Del also looked forward to sharing a cup of coffee with family and friends.

She will be terribly missed by her family.

 

Surviving are her sons, Michael Smith and companion, Rosemary McCarthy of Waymart and Richard B. Smith and companion, Dee Kromko of Honesdale; her daughters, Debra Williams and husband John of Tuscon, AZ, Kathleen Finkle and husband James of Damascus and Michelle Caldwell and husband David of Honesdale; her brothers, Franklin Brink of Honesdale, Robert Brink and wife Patricia of Jacksonville, FL and Randy Brink and wife Laura of Hawley; her sister, Beth Carney and husband James of Honesdale. She is also survived by her 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Carly Marie Williams; her brothers, Benjamin and Gary Brink; her sisters, Gladys “Butch” Kenyon and Patricia Schillinger.

 

Del’s family would like to thank Merri Neer for helping care for her and also Charlene Whitmore for the compassionate end of life hospice care.

 

Private services will be held at the convenience of her family. Arrangements by Hessling Murray Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale.
