Brooking, 85, of Honesdale, died on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Bethany Village where he was residing. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Emily Dreisbach on July 4, 1997. The couple married on May 18, 1968. Born on January 14, 1939 in Honesdale, he was the son of the late Tracey and Beryl (Williams) Brooking. He was a graduate of Honesdale High School. A master journeyman plumber, Dave retired from the former Jeanes Hospital in Philadelphia after over 30 years of employment. In his retirement, Dave worked as an assistant at Hessling Funeral Home where he quickly fit in as one of the guys. An active member of the community, he was a member of the Honesdale Rotary, the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Alert Hook and Ladder Fire Department. Dave was a faithful member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale where he spent many hours in its Eucharistic Adoration Chapel. Dave loved listening to jazz, especially Dave Brubeck. He enjoyed gardening, reading, and was very knowledgeable. An avid sports fan, he was devoted to the Pittsburgh Steelers and followed college football throughout the fall. He was a faithful friend of Bill W. Surviving is his daughter, Kathleen Brooking of Seattle, WA; his nieces, Terri Parrish of Honesdale, Barbara Heiser and husband Keith of Kutztown, Suellen Tracey of Waymart and Sara Lynn Redline and husband Blair of Winter Haven, FL; several great nieces and nephews. He was a man who could make friends anywhere he went, and is also survived by those many friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, John O. Brooking and his wife, Mary Anne. The family thanks the staff at Bethany Village for their support and care. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 8th at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Honesdale at 10am. Friends may visit Hessling Murray Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale on Thursday, 4 to 7. Private cremation and interment in Mount Moriah Cemetery will be held at the convenience of his family.
